Rural King is a member of Mid-states Distributing Company of Fort Worth, Texas. This group brings together over 600 family-owned farm and home stores throughout the United States and Canada.
George Jones, grandfather of owner Ryan Jones, opened Big R Rural King in 1965 in Olney, Illinois. They later expanded to Mount Carmel in 1978, then to Robinson, Illinois in 1982. After that, Salem, Illinois opened in 1986, Highland, Illinois in 1990, and Swansea, Illinois in 2010. Olney switched location into a new larger store in the spring of 2012.
Big R features a variety of lawn and garden products including mowers and farm supplies. They also carry outdoor lawn furniture, as well as housewares and plumbing. Tools, seasonal clothing, hunting and fishing supplies, and feed are just a couple of the other departments located in the store.
Big R Rural King Supply is still owned and operated by the Jones family. In 2022, Rural King changed their name to Big R Farm and Home. They truly appreciate the Mt. Carmel community and would like to encourage you to stop in and see what Big R Farm and Home has to offer!
